Graduated compression
What is meant by “graduated compression”?
This is the compression that elastic stockings exert on the vein walls. The degrees of compression are expressed in units called “mm/Hg” (millimetres of mercury). Sometimes, to make it more straightforward for the end user, the degrees of compression are expressed in DEN (denier). We must stress, however, that the best and most precise way of expressing the degree of compression is in mm/Hg. The higher the value of mm/Hg (and thus also DEN), the higher the degree of compression. To accommodate the physiological structure of the venous system in the legs, an elastic stocking that provides "decreasing graduated compression" has been created. This guarantees a smoother blood flow by decreasing leg compression from the bottom up. As such, the wearer has a higher degree of compression at the ankle and this then progressively decreases towards the knee, facilitating the return of blood to the heart.

How is the degree of compression interpreted?

Every Sanyleg graduated compression garment has been created following the "decreasing graduated compression" concept. In the Sanyleg range, the degree of compression is given for the ankle: high-compression garments are only advisable in certain cases of problem veins and if recommended by a doctor; these can only be bought with a prescription. Our knee highs, pantyhose and hold-ups have degrees of compression that range from 40 to 280 Den.

Why choose graduated compression pantyhose or stockings?
Graduated compression hosiery can be chosen to aid the prevention of pathologies of venous origin or, in lesser degrees of compression, for people who are conscious about their leg health. This might be somebody who spends a lot of time on their feet or who has to remain sitting for many hours; it might also be somebody who does a lot of sport since the stocking enables the faster functional recovery of blood circulation, thus preventing the formation of varicose veins, heaviness or swelling in the legs.

Graduated compression in unisex stockings.
For several years now, Sanyleg has been developing a project for the production of unisex cotton compression stockings. Our knee highs with graduated compression support are suitable for everyone as not only are they extremely soft and comfortable, they don't leave annoying marks on the calf while guaranteeing a good, all-day grip without sliding down.

True heel
What is this?
All Sanyleg graduated compression garments have a true reciprocated heel. This type of heel is exclusively produced using machines that run with a “reciprocating motion” system.

What are the benefits?
1) The calcaneus (or heel bone) is perfectly positioned in the heel pocket, allowing the stocking greater stability so that it doesn't roll while the wearer is walking;
2) The point of maximum compression is exactly positioned;
3) Broader fit and elasticity in the ankle circumference, thanks to the famous "heel pocket", created to position the calcaneus.
Pantyhose with compression
Compression decreases gradually from the bottom upward to gently stimulate the venous blood flow return, resulting in lightness
and well-being.
